School-Age Child Care

School-Age Child Care

Introduction:
We are a nationally accredited program providing a safe and nurturing environment while promoting the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of young children.

Philosophy:
The SACC program provides a unique opportunity for children to enrich what happens in school, to develop a self identity by interaction with peers and to explore and take part in productive activities which challenge them. The SACC program can provide one of the best environments for children of varying ages to live and learn together. Skills (sensory, motor, perceptual, and language) which are introduced during the course of the normal school day are enhanced through child centered and teacher directed materials and activities. Activities in our after school program are provided to compliment the time children have already spent in school taking into consideration that children need time to relax their minds and bodies. Our child care staff is committed to these concepts. We will provide opportunities for your child to explore the environment and interact with adults and peers while in a nurturing atmosphere. A natural love for children combined with sensitivity and teaching skills will result in effective techniques that will benefit your child during the time after the regular school day ends.

Goals:
  • To provide an environment which enhances and provides continuity to the child's regular school day.
  • To recognize that each child has had different experiences prior to arrival at the child care program and to assist in addressing those needs in order for the child to have a successful after school experience.
  • To acknowledge various cultural and ethnic differences; to provide continuity through promoting acceptance of other people and cultures.
  • To respect, accept, and respond to each individual child's feelings; to promote a positive self concept in each child.
  • To select materials, equipment, and activities that are developmentally appropriate for each group represented.
  • To provide an environment that is clean, safe, and stimulating, one where the children can actively participate.
We strive to meet our goal so that each child will have happy, fun, and enriching experiences while with us after school.

We will be posting videos, photos, and need-to-know information on PlanetK8. PlanetK8 is a great way to find out what’s happening throughout our school. A sister version called PlanetHS is being used by Sevier, Robinson, and DB. You can sign up for an account on www.planetk8.com. If you are already a PlanetHS parent, just add Washington Elementary to the schools you follow. Be sure to follow your child's class, all related arts classes/clubs, and SACC.
